“Since assistant coach Abhishek Nair, Morne Morkel, and Ryan ten Doeschate all came on Gautam Gambhir’s recommendation, he has to face a lot of criticism,” a BCCI source told Hindustan Times.
BCCI officials have spoken to one and a half senior Indian players and some inside the dressing room are not happy with Abhishek Nair’s role. He was informed a few days ago that his contract will not be renewed,” the source added.
Fielding coach T. Dilip and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai have resigned from their posts after serving for more than three years.
The BCCI SOP means Standard Operating Procedure, which limits the tenure of support staff to three years.
It is learnt that India’s first strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux is likely to return for a second term.
The South African was instrumental in making the Indian team more fitness-oriented when Sourav Ganguly led the team during the 2003 World Cup.
But it is a shame to hear that we are about to lose one of the most trusted assistant coaches of the Indian team.
