Ajinkya Rahane blames himself for Kolkata Knight Riders’ loss to Punjab Kings. There has been a storm on social media as to why Rahane did not seek a review for his LBW despite the DRS being in place.
Then Kolkata Knight Riders were on 62 runs and 2 wickets had fallen. Suddenly, we saw that Rahane was given out LBW by Yuzvendra Chahal’s googly. But it is understood that the ball hit by Rahane’s foot was outside the seam and not close to the wicket, but the umpire gave it out. If Rahane had taken the review, it would have been a not out, but Rahane did not take the review. He thought that they had made such a low score before and would do the same against the Chennai Super Kings team, but it was the opposite.
Where it is clear that Kolkata Knight Riders could have easily won the match even if they had not scored a single run off every ball, it was against Punjab Kings in Match No. 31, but captain Rahane’s wrong decisions and impact player Raghuvanshi’s overconfidence made it easy for the entire team to lose.
It feels bad to write this, but we Indian cricket lovers felt so bad that I felt compelled to write today.
Shreyas Iyer’s experience comes in handy here, he took the bowling unit and his experience of spinning Chahal’s bowl changed the whole face of the match. He took 4 wickets and the batsmen of the Knights could not play at all. The game turned around when Chahal broke the partnership of Raghuvanshi and Rahane, his bowling was spinning a lot that day.
Mohammad Kaif has been very vocal about this, “He criticised Rahane for his mistakes, told him to stop being a “team man” and be “selfish” at times.”
Mohammad Kaif said in his tweet that “The time has come for Rahane to be an important member of the team. He needs to keep this in mind. He is the captain and the main batsman of the team. If there is even the slightest doubt, he should take DRS.”
